What Is Open MRI?

Who is Open MRI

We at Open MRI first opened in 1999 in Northeast Philadelphia.  Since then, we have opened in Chestnut Hill, Delaware County, South Philadelphia, and Chester County, and we recently opened a location in Berks County.  Since our first day, we have strived for superior patient comfort, state-of-the-art imaging technology, and a pleasant experience.  We have always specialized in Open MRI specifically to help accommodate patients with claustrophobia, anxiety, or who are oversized.  We have a team of Board-Certified Radiologists to write a comprehensive diagnostic report, and a team of certified technologists to operate the machines.  All 6 of our locations are fully accredited by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission for Neurological and Musculoskeletal MRI.  We are a privately owned company who is not affiliated with any major medical systems, so we have the freedom to keep quality control and keep costs down.   If you need to have an MRI done, call us today!  We're Open...For You

What is an "Open" MRI?

It is a Magnetic Resonance Imaging machine designed for diagnostic imaging of the body.  What makes it "Open" is the shape of the machine.  Most MRI Machines are shaped like a tube.  This can be a problem for people who are claustrophobic or larger size.  The Open MRI machines, like the ones at Open MRI Centers, are shaped differently.  Instead of a tube, the patient lays down between two flat surfaces without any curvature of the sides around the patient.  The patient is positioned so that the part of the body being scanned is placed in the center of the imaging field.  This allows for larger patients, as well as a more spacious and open feel to help with claustrophobia.  If you would like to see one in person, feel free to stop by one of our centers and our technologist will guide you through the process.
